Well, this year will soon come to an end and so will your time at Lövgärdesskolan. Many of you have been wondering about your English grades. Although it's been a tough year where you've missed a lot of English lessons due to Krokholmen, work practice, sport days and many more activities, the results overall on the national tests show that you've learned some English after all. Well done!
I'm happy to say that your results on the listening and reading comprehension have improved quite a lot since last autumn.
Johny and I will give you the remaining results on the national tests as soon as we've finished the discussion part with all the students.
I wish you all good luck in the future,
your English teacher in 9:th grade - Åsa Erichsen

Very good results on the national tests 2011!
I'm very pleased with the results of the listening and reading comprehension parts of the national tests.
Between 40 - 50% reached VG or MVG which is a lot better than the tests you did last autumn. Well done!
By the way, if you weren't able to do the test - there will be another chance on Friday the 15:th of April at 13.00pm.

I just want to wish you all good luck on the National Tests on Friday and next Wednesday.
Don't worry too much about your results. I will try and organise other ways of assessing your English skills if you happen to fail on one of the tests.
Make sure that you prepare yourselves by going to bed in time, eating a good breakfast and telling yourselves that you can do this!
It's also a good idea to look at your old essays (and blogs) and the feedback I've written to you, before you write your essay next Wednesday.
Love Åsa

Welcome back to your last semester here at Lövgärdesskolan
I hope that the vacation has been good for you and that you have a lot of new energy after the break.
I have done a plan for this semester, that I will present to you during the lesson in week 3.
I have also provided the English website with a lot of new material. Go and have a look at the useful links to different sites where you can practice your English. You'll also find the lessons that we have carried out this semester, in case you've been absent for some reason.
This is the semester when you are going to receive the grades that really counts. You are also going to do four different national tests.
I wish you all good luck and I hope that you'll keep on blogging if you want feedback on your written English or if you have questions about the English subject.

Only two tests out of four left during this semester!
I'm glad to say that the oral (muntliga) test went very well for most students.
When it comes to the reading test, the results varied a lot. It's my opinion that we have to practice more on similar kinds of tests during the next semester.
This week, we're going to watch a movie called “the Wave” during the Monday lesson. It's a story about a class that study Nazi-Germany, which you do in your History class with Helena. If you miss the lesson or if you want to watch the movie again – go to: https://sites.google.com/site/engelskalovgardesskolan/home/hoerfoerstaaelse/the-wave
We will hopefully do the hearing apprehension test during the Thursday (9a,c) and Friday (9b) lessons. Then you're going to answer questions while you're listening to one or more people speaking English.
The last test will be essay writing. You'll do this test in week 50. Prepare yourself by looking at the feedback you've gotten on your written English on your English blog. You can also practice on your grammar in the “Improve your English” booklet. If you've lost it, go to: https://sites.google.com/site/engelskalovgardesskolan/home/grammar
Good luck! Åsa

Instructions for the oral presentation and the literature discussion
The class is divided into 3-4 discussion groups.
Every lesson, one group will leave the classroom and join Åsa in the ”group room”.
The rest of the students have to stay in the classroom.
Sit by yourselves - not next to another student.
Work in your booklet ”Improve your English” individually.
If you have any questions, ask a classmate (whisper) or do another exercise while you wait for Åsa to return to the classroom at the end of the lesson.
No one is allowed to leave the classroom during the lesson! Åsa will check the attendance at numerous of occasions.
The key to the exercises will be handed out at the end of each lesson.
You are supposed to finish a number of exercises for each lesson, otherwise you will have to do it as your homework!
If you behave and work well, you will get to listen to the radio (Lugna favoriter) during the lesson.

Literature discussions – starting in week 45
Today is your last day on your work practice. I'm looking forward to seeing you all on Monday again. Now it's back to school with a pretty hectic month ahead, even though you have a week off for fall/autumn break in week 44.
Here are some information about what happens after week 44.
You are going to discuss the book you've read together with classmates in groups of 5-6 students. I'm going to observe the groups and grade both how well you present your book and how well you participate in the discussion. Therefore, there can only be one group at a time. The rest of the students will get a booklet each with English exercises that will help you improve your written English. It's important that you all behave and work well during the following 1-2 weeks so that I can concentrate on the group that has their oral presentation and discussion.
Here is some information that is interesting to know about your books:
1.Title
2.Author
3.Number of pages
4.Level of difficulty
5.The story
6.The characters
7.Your impression
8.Grade
Here are some questions to pull during the discussion:
How long did it take to read the book?
Did you borrow the book from school?
What did you learn from reading the book?
Which character did you like the most?
What was the most interesting part of the book?
Was the book on the right difficulty level for you?
Would you recommend the book?
And so on...
It's important that you prepare yourself before the presentation and the discussion. We'll talk more about this on Monday.
Have a great weekend!
